Car rental in Syria

09 May 2026
Car rental is in its infancy in Syria, with just a handful of providers and none of the big international brands present yet. But if you're comfortable with slightly chaotic traffic conditions, regular checkpoints, occasional potholes and a cash deposit of a few hundred dollars, you should have a great trip! Others may prefer simply hiring a driver for a day or a longer trip, as the costs are relatively modest.

Although the rental companies don't demand it, having an international driving licence alongside your regular one could be a good idea, as it's an official translation.

Here are three recommended car rental companies based in Damascus; click on the links below for more details.

Auris Car Rental
An established Turkish car rental company that expanded to Syria in 2025, Auris offers hotel pick-ups and drop-offs, driver services and 24/7 rapid roadside response. Offices at Damascus airport, Abdullah Ibn Rawaha Street in the Kafar Sousah district, and the Massa Plaza Mall, as well as in Aleppo and Homs.

Beit al Salam
The Beit al Salam hostel in the old town offers car rental. Payment is in cash, as is the $500 deposit. Drivers can be arranged at extra cost.

Horses
Licensed car rental company with BMW, BYD, FAW, Hyundai Elantra Hybrid, and SAIPA (Iranian Citroën) cars. Horses also offers an airport pick-up and drop-off service and private drivers.
