This modest underground chapel is perhaps the most intriguing sight in the eastern part of the ancient Old Town of Damascus. The simple vaulted space is said to be where Saint Ananias baptised Saul of Tarsus, aka St. Paul the Apostle. The current iteration was rebuilt by Franciscans in 1814 and remains an important Christian pilgrimage site. Get your ticket from the gift shop on ground level before descending into history.
