The Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art first opened in August 1960 and moved to its present site in 1984. A 'must-see' - not only for modern and contemporary art but also the architecture and landscaping of the buildings which is as impressive as their contents. Modern One is housed in a neoclassical building, originally  designed by William Burn in 1825. The lawn at the front of the building was designed by the guru of post modern architecture Charles Jencks and encompasses a sculpture park (Cragg, Hepworth, Moore)
Modern Two, originally built in 1833, was converted into a Gallery in 1999 by (Sir)Terry Farrell and Partners in order to show the Gallery of Modern Art’s extensive collection of Dada and Surrealist art and work by the sculptor Eduardo Paolozzi.
