The largest of the lakes in the Pivka basin, Palčje is 2.5km long. Understandably its filling and draining patterns alter from year to year and the amount of water to be found depends entirely on the weather, but whether it is full or empty it is still a sight to see. An important nesting spot for many birds, some of whom are endangered, in this area we also find over half of all Slovenian butterflies.
