Visit in summer, and you’ll be greeted with stunning pink-tinged meadows full of the vibrancy of live. Visit during a rainy winter, and 17 lakes will spring up in front. Pivka’s seasonal lakes are another fine example of the unique karst environment as well as the variety of flora and fauna found in the area. PalĨje and Petelinjsko are the two biggest lakes, and the basin is also home to the burja. What is the burja you ask? It’s a pretty darn cold (and super strong) wind that is something of a local bogeyman. To learn more about the lakes, head to Pivka’s Eco-museum.
