The main reason to visit the village of Podgrad would be to see the Škoromati collection housed there. The Škoromats are characters who take part in the annual Pust (carnival) celebrations, but in this case they are unique to the region. The history of the Škoromati is explored within the museum, detailing the role and origin of each character, of which the kleščar (tongs carrier) and zvončar (bell carrier) are the two best known. The costumes are intimidating to say the least, but in the 21st century the celebration is always in good humour. Well, we hope so anyway.
