They say ‘roads are paved by history’ (we don’t think anyone actually says that), and what is known as the Mast Road more than fits this bill. One of the oldest connections over the Postojna Gate, the name comes from the days when Slovenian timber was transported along it to the North Adriatic ports. The most famous of these is Venice, which of course was built using a large amount of Slovenian wood. Today the road is dotted with a number of information points and provides an excellent point for biking or hiking.
