The first-ever IMAX® with Laser theatre in Gauteng is now open at The Zone @ Rosebank, bringing Ster-Kinekor’s most immersive movie experience yet to Joburg. With multicolour ultra-sharp laser projection, crystal-clear sound and a gigantic screen measuring 17 metres wide and 9.7 metres high – the biggest in Gauteng and the second biggest in South Africa – it’s cinema on a seriously epic scale. Seating 285 moviegoers, this is the kind of experience that makes regular movie nights feel very small afterwards.

The official launch took place on Fri, Apr 10, 2026, with a screening of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and Project Hail Mary, shot specifically for IMAX viewing. With the rise in popularity in movies shot for IMAX, a dedicated theatre ensures you’re seeing the movie exactly as the director intended you to. “There is an undeniable magic in the big-screen experience that simply cannot be replicated at home,” says CEO of Ster-Kinekor, Mark Sardi. “Cinemas remain uniquely relevant because they deliver films the way directors made them to be seen – on the biggest canvas, with immersive sound and uncompromised image quality.”
