If you're going to host one of the world's biggest travel trade fairs, you might as well do it somewhere impressive. ExCeL London opened in November 2000 on the old Royal Docks, a corner of East London that spent most of the 20th century being quietly post-industrial before someone decided it was the perfect spot for Europe's largest events venue.

The venue stretches across more than 100,000 square metres of flexible exhibition space, which goes some way to explaining how it swallows events of WTM's scale without appearing to break a sweat. It hosted seven Olympic and six Paralympic events during London 2012, which remains its most dramatic CV entry. Getting there is straightforward enough: the Elizabeth line connects the venue to central London in about 12 minutes, and London City Airport is practically next door for international visitors.
