National Centre of Contemporary Art

  Kremlin, Arsenal, bldg. 6      (+7) 831 422 45 54     more than a year ago
Housed in a recently renovated 19th century edifice inside the Kremlin, this small museum provides a space for a different exhibit every few months dedicated to different movements or artists. The gallery's directors put an emphasis on engaging the public with its art, so don't feel you already have to know it all before you go - you'll learn something when you get there. Recent exhibits have included a tribute to the composer John Cage, an exhibition of Moscow Conceptualism and a showing of a series of paintings challenging the viewer to spot the connection; at any rate you'll hopefully find the kind of art that provokes a reaction. There's also a small café with live piano music (albeit most of the time they're just playing John Cage's '4'33'' of Silence').
