This 12km long and 6km wide Karst limestone plateau divides continental Slovenia from the coast. There are several marked paths to the top, the most popular starting at the village of Razdrto. The highest peak is called Suhi Vrh, at 1313m, offering a panoramic view towards the Slovenian Alps and also hills near the coast. As with most popular hills (and mountains) in Slovenia, there's a mountain lodge on top (Vojkova Koča) where you can get local food, and drink of course! Nanos is also a important historical site; it was here that the first anti-fascist resistance movement was formed in this part of Europe, the Revolutionary Organisation of the Julian March T.I.G.R, or TIGR for short, and was where one of the first battles between the Italian fascist forces and Slovene partisans took place during the second world war. Hiking time: 2 hours 20 minutes on the gentle path; 1 hour on the steep one.
