Located a convenient crawling distance from the Volga River the Zhigulovsky brewery is one of Russia’s oldest and finest. It was founded in 1881 by Austrian brewer Alfred von Vacano. The interior is reminiscent of a hunting lodge with wooden panelling and hunting trophies mounted along the walls alongside antique rifles. TV screens show the European football. This is a great place for a pitcher of beer (they have several good varieties of local brew) and a meal to bring the day to a perfect close. Attached to the brewery is a small shop where you can buy on tap beer by the litres – so bring a large container with you to pick up a drink to last you and your friends the afternoon!
