Close to the settlement of Chochołów and running roughly parallel to its wilder and more popular sister Kościeliska, Dolina Chochołowska is an easy, mostly flat hike through woods and meadows. The 10km long green trail running through the bottom of the valley starts at Siwa Polana parking lot and terminates at the Polana Chochołowska mountain hut; the first 3.5kms (1h) are along a paved road, which becomes a dirt track at Polana Huciska. Points of interest along the way include the Siwańskie Turnie pinnacles (400 metres from the parking lot) and two gorges: Niżna Brama Chochołowska (55 minutes from the parking lot) and Wyżnia Brama Chochołowska (1h25). Getting to the mountain hut will take you about 2h, whereupon you can do a turnaround or climb 500 m up to the summit of Grześ (yellow trail, 1h45) or even continue on to Wołowiec (2h45). Chochołowska Valley is connected to Kościeliska in two places: Dolina Dudowa, 1h15 from Siwa Polana (take the 2h15 black trail, which will spit you out not far from Mroźna Cave), and Starorobociańska Dolina, 1h35 from Siwa Polana (take the 2h30 yellow trail to Hala Ornak mountain hut). Keep in mind that both of those trails are hilly. Come in late March or early April for a splendid display of purple crocus flowers, which blanket the valley thickly once the snow begins to recede.
