Named after its former owners, the Gąsienicas (a prominent Zakopane clan), the Gąsienica Valley is a splendidly green, lake-dotted expanse of land ringed by the ridges of Kasprowy Wierch and Orla Perć. The valley was once popular with shepherds and bandits, and now contains the Murowaniec mountain hut and serves as a starting point for hikes up to Kasprowy Wierch, Świnica, Kościelec, Zawrat, Kozi Wierch, and Granaty. The easiest way to get here is from the Kuźnice parking lot; follow the yellow trail through Jaworzynka Meadow, which will turn into blue at a pass further up. The elevation difference between the parking lot and the Murowaniec mountain hut is some 480m, so you will have to hike uphill - the route takes about 2h50.
