If there is one food synonymous with Podhale, it has to be the oscypek, a hard, smoked cheese made from sheep's milk. Sold in stalls all around the city (and also quite popular in nearby Kraków), these little guys are loved by tourists and locals alike, and can be turned into a decent meal with the help of a grill and some cranberry sauce. Surprisingly, selling the humble oscypki can be a seriously lucrative business - the city rents out the best stall spots for as much as 19,000zł per month (with that money, you could rent about nine apartments in Kraków!), with no shortage of takers.
