Władysław Hasior Art Gallery

  ul. Jagiellońska 18b      (+48) 18 206 68 71     more than a year ago
Dedicated to and set up by the local artist, stage designer and all-round eccentric Władysław Hasior (1928-1999), this former sanatorium is cluttered with the artists work. It’s absolutely crazy, as well as a little unsettling, with huge Gothic like banners hanging from the ceiling, and weird installations that include a pram filled with soil and small crucifixes, scarey demonic masks and a baby doll getting nailed down by a sewing machine. The pieces, made from salvaged trash, mannequins and mirrors are freaky, and made all the more so by a weird, shifting soundtrack that appears to follow you as you go. A recommended excursion into the spectacular and twisted imagination of one Poland’s more accomplished contemporary artists, and one that will leave you thinking for some time after.
