A stones throw from the church of St Helena in Prem is the old school house, better known as the birth house of the 19th century Slovenian poet Dragotin Kette. Kette, whose father was a teacher in the school, was born here in 1876 and the house has since become something of a shrine. A bust of Kette (and his fine moustache) greets you upon entering, and the downstairs part of the two-storey building is almost adorably small. A memorial plaque can be found on the building outside. There is also a black kitchen in the third downstairs room, although today this is a black kitchen only in name.
