Near the source of the Pivka River is Kalec Castle, a partially ruined 17th century palace of which only a single tower remains. Surrounded by linden and chestnut trees it carries a slightly eerie atmosphere, and was abandoned by its final owners after World War One. Slovenian composer Miroslav Vilhar died here, and it also played host to a meeting of antifascist group TIGR in 1941.
