This 12km long and 6km wide limestone plateau divides continental Slovenia from its coast and is also home to history. It was here that the first anti-fascist resistance movement was formed in this part of Europe, the Revolutionary Organisation of the Julian March T.I.G.R, or TIGR for short. It was also on Nanos where one of the first battle between the Italian fascist forces and Slovene partisans took place during World War Two. Today, the plateau is traversed by the Slovene Mountain Trail, which is the oldest interconnecting trail in Slovenia.
