Not many are aware, but the first modern industrial zone in all of Yugoslavia was put together in Trzin. The reasons for this were fairly clear; Trzin is a prosperous area with a great location, close to Domžale in particular which was one of the richest towns in the entire state as well as perfectly located next to Ljubljana and Brnik (now Jože Pučnik) airport. Built partly on a swamp, the area thrived for decades before slowing to a halt with much of the national economy. These days it is more known for something different. Constructed in the 1990s, the OIC pyramid sticks out like the sorest of glassy thumbs in this industrial area. It is thought that this was the major reason it was built, to provide something different in an otherwise drab zone. It is quite the sight.
